See the rankingsHow we work
Every site in our comparisons is tested with a real deposit. We time withdrawals from request to money received, recalculate every bonus into dollars that must be wagered (a NZ$500 bonus at 40x means NZ$20,000 of bets before cashing out), and verify each operator's licence. The offers shown were checked in October 2026; when a term changes, the page changes. Our full methodology is public, and every page carries a named author and a last-updated date.
- Deposit real money at every site — card, e-wallet and crypto.
- Verify the licence on the regulator's register.
- Read every bonus term and recalculate the wagering cost in NZ dollars.
- Complete KYC and withdraw twice, timing request to money received.
- Score: payout speed 35%, bonus value 30%, NZ usability 20%, safety 15%.
- Re-check monthly — slipping casinos move down or out.
The NZ legal picture, without the fog
The Gambling Act 2003 bans running an online casino from inside New Zealand — it does not ban you from playing at sites based overseas. That's why every casino in our rankings operates under an international licence, and we say so plainly on every page. The ground is shifting: under the Online Casino Gambling Act 2026 (in force 1 May 2026), the DIA auctioned up to 15 licences in late 2026 and the regulated market opens on 1 December 2026. We'll re-rank every list as licences are announced. Sports betting is different again — TAB NZ holds the domestic monopoly, offshore betting isn't an offence for the bettor, and our betting comparison measures who actually offers better odds. Winnings stay tax-free for recreational players either way.

FAQs from Kiwi players
Is it legal to play at online casinos in NZ?
Yes — playing at offshore casinos is legal under the Gambling Act 2003; operating one from within NZ is not. From 1 December 2026, up to 15 DIA-licensed operators join the market.
Do I pay tax on casino winnings in NZ?
No, not as a recreational player. Winnings are windfalls, not income.
What replaced POLi for deposits?
Visa/Mastercard debit, Paysafecard, MiFinity/Jeton e-wallets, bank transfer, and crypto. POLi was withdrawn from the gambling market; guides still listing it are out of date.
How fast should a withdrawal be?
1–3 business days to an NZ bank once verified; under an hour in crypto. Consistently slower than 5 days is a red flag.
